Central Heating Engineers in St Albans

A good central heating system should warm every room evenly, heat up quickly and not cost a fortune to run. If some radiators stay cold, the boiler is working overtime or the system is noisy, there is usually a clear reason, and our heating engineers can find it. We work on heating systems of every age across St Albans, Harpenden, Hatfield and the rest of Hertfordshire. For rooms that still overheat in summer, we also fit air conditioning in St Albans.

New central heating systems

Whether you are replacing an old system, extending into a loft conversion or starting from scratch, our central heating installation service covers the boiler, pipework, radiators and controls. If you are moving from storage heaters or an old gravity-fed system, our system conversion work brings it up to date with a modern pressurised system and proper controls.

Radiators and underfloor heating

We replace tired or undersized radiators with correctly sized modern ones and fit designer and column styles through our radiator installation service. For kitchens, extensions and bathrooms, underfloor heating gives even warmth and frees up wall space.

Powerflushing and system health

Radiators that are cold at the bottom, a boiler that kettles or bangs, and black water when you bleed a radiator are all signs of sludge in the system. A powerflush clears it out, and we then fit a magnetic filter and add inhibitor to keep it clean.

Controls and efficiency

Modern thermostats, smart controls and thermostatic radiator valves let you heat the rooms you use, when you use them. They are one of the quickest ways to cut heating bills without replacing the boiler.

Common Questions About Central Heating

Why are my radiators cold at the bottom?

Usually sludge has settled in the bottom of the radiator and is blocking the flow. A powerflush cleans the system, and a magnetic filter stops it building up again.

The system may need balancing, a valve may be stuck, or there could be air or sludge in the pipework. We check each cause and fix it so every room heats evenly.

A full system in an average house usually takes three to five days, depending on the number of radiators and how much pipework needs to be run.
